Darland C. “Pete” Peters, 83, a resident of Chase Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Berlin, NY, formerly of Woodhull, passed away there on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Darland was born in Woodhull on June 22, 1937, the son of the late Charles H. and Catherine Burr Peters. A lifelong resident of Woodhull, Darland was a graduate of the Woodhull High School. Following high school, he attended Morrisville State College, studying auto mechanics. On February 16, 1957, Darland and the former Doris I. Stewart were married in Corning. Doris preceded him in death on May 24, 2019. As a young man, Darland was employed for a period of time at Symonds Garage in Woodhull. He made a career with Ingersoll Rand Co in Painted Post from where he retired as a machinist after the creation of the Dresser Rand business there. Darland was very involved in his community. He was a former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 39 in Woodhull as well as a life member and past Assistant Chief and President of the Woodhull Fire Department. He served as Town Justice for the Town of Woodhull for many years and was a former member of the Woodhull Masonic Lodge. Darland had set on the Addison Central School Board. He later served as a Fire Commissioner for the Woodhull Fire District. Upon the creation of the Woodhull Community Day committee, Darland and Doris were very active in the organization and planning of the annual community celebrations held in September. Following Darland’s retirement, he became the Sexton of Woodhull Cemetery, holding that position for several years. Darland is survived by his children, Devon Peters of Norwich, NY, Doran and Kelly Peters of Woodhull, Wendell and Marlene Peters of Youngsville, PA, Julie and Mike Cohen of Albany, NY, Shelly Kimble of Woodhull and Dorene Peters and Rosemary Kossow of Cheektowaga, NY, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his brother, Stanley Patterson of South Carolina, his sister, Beverly Hackett of Rushford, NY and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held in Woodhull Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will follow there. A celebration of life to honor Darland will be held at a later date. Those wishing to remember Darland in a special way are asked to donate to the Woodhull Community Day Committee or the Woodhull Fire Department.
