Obituary of Douglas E. Coolidge

Douglas A. Coolidge, 88, of Cty. Rte. 1, Campbell, NY, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Corning Hospital. Doug was born in Wellsboro, PA on May 21, 1933, the son of Stuart and Anna Colegrove Coolidge. He spent time as a youngster living with his grandparents in Woodhull. He eventually lived in Painted Post where he was a 1953 graduate of the former Painted Post High School. Following high school, Doug served his nation as an airman in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1957. On October 13, 1962, Doug and the former Thelma J. Grist were married in Coopers Plains. Thelma preceded him in death on April 2, 2011. Doug was employed by Corning Glass Works at the “Box Factory” in Riverside for over 20 years until it was acquired by Weyerhaeuser Corp. where he worked another 9 years prior to retiring. Doug truly enjoyed engaging with others, always greeting everyone with a huge grin and a story to share. He knew that family and friends were the most important things in his life. Doug was a member of over 50 years of the Campbell American Legion Post. He enjoyed deer hunting. Surviving Doug are his children, Kelvin (Cindy) Coolidge of Duanesburg, NY, Roseanne (Michael) Borisenko of Scotia, NY, Lyle Coolidge of Lake Luzerne, NY, Cynthia Orlando of Schenectady, NY, Maureen (George) Simons of Campbell and Douglas (Pamela) Hamblin of Campbell along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his wife Thelma, Doug was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Simons and his brother, Richard Coolidge. Friends may call on Monday, November 15 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there at 1 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Visitors are encouraged to wear face masks while attending. Burial will follow in Woodhull Cemetery.
