Please share a memory of Dale to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BATH: Dale A. “Butch” Dygert, 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, February 24, 2024, surrounded by family at the Palliative Care Center at Strong Memorial Hospital. Butch was born on March 8, 1943 in the town of Bath to Woodrow and Phyllis (Flint) Dygert. On August 21, 1965, he married Linda Stewart and they have been inseparable, taking care of each other for close to 59 years. Butch worked for many years at the salt mine in Himrod, NY, and later as a truck driver at McConnell Manufacturing in Prattsburg, NY and then for Haines Equipment Inc. in Avoca. He also served as Assessor and Board Member for the Town of Wheeler. The biggest love of Butch’s life was our savior Jesus Christ. While he was a man of few words, if you wanted to talk about the Bible or Heaven, he could talk for hours. He was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others and attended Wheeler Methodist Church. He also loved being with his family. When his kids Tammy and Brian were young, he loved taking the family on vacations, going to amusement parks, and playing miniature golf. The trips were always an adventure. Butch enjoyed spending his summers on the lawn mower, making the dooryard look beautiful, in the garden growing potatoes and beans, and planting flowers for his wife to enjoy. He loved reading, playing euchre and poker with family, and traveling to local casinos to play the slot machines. Butch was a kind-hearted and compassionate man with a big smile and an even bigger hug. He did sometimes have a feisty, scrappy side when it came to debating directions, how long to cook something, and politics. There are so many memories and funny stories of things he said and did, which his family told over and over again while he just smiled and shook his head. Butch is survived by his wife Linda, his daughter Tammy (Mike) Gilbert of Wheeler, his son Brian (Cassy) Dygert of Gillett, PA, grandsons Michael (Stacey) Gilbert of Morgan Hill, CA, Tyler (Hailee) Gilbert of Bath, granddaughters Caitlin Casiello of Providence, RI, and Addie (Tanner) Dygert of Irondequoit, Great Grandchildren Chloe, Olivia, Tayylor, and Mikey Gilbert, sister Sandra MacDougal of Wheeler, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Butch never wanted to say goodbye, instead he always said “Later.” So, see you later in Heaven, where we know you will be. Per Butch’s request, there will be no public calling hours or services. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Avoca, at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Butch’s name may be made to the Palliative Care Program, Unit 412, PO Box 278996, 300 E River Road, Rochester, NY 14627 or online at http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/medicine/palliative-care/ (Please note Unit 412 in the comments), where he received the best care anyone could ask for. The family would just like to say “Yo!” to all the amazing doctors, nurses, and staff on this unit. They have been truly wonderful.
