Obituary of Merle A. Wyant

ARKPORT: Merle A. Wyant, 83, of Willey Rd. passed away Thursday afternoon, August 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by the love and care of his family following a long illness. Merle was born January 31, 1941 at the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell to the late Harland A. and Helen B. (Ferris) Wyant. On January 27, 1962 at the South Dansville Methodist Church, he married the love of his life the former Elizabeth E. “Betty” Faulkner who survives and resides in Arkport. He owned and operated the “Wynot Farm” on Willey Road for many years. After farming he worked at his son Mike’s diesel shop on North Main Extension in Hornell and was the best boss a father could ask for. Merle enjoyed hunting, motorcycling, snowmobiling and making trips to the casino. In addition to his wife Betty, Merle is survived by a son Michael (Donna) Wyant of Arkport, daughter and loving care taker, Lisa Ann Wellington of Arkport. Six grandchildren, Lucas (Kristina) Wyant, Andrew (Jordan) Wellington, Zachary (Danielle) Wellington, Julia (Jorden) Ford, Yvonne Payne and Louie Payne, 10 great grandchildren, Ash and Wilder Ford, Elenora, Archer and Jett Wyant, Emalyann and Colton Wellington and Maxwell Merle, Braxton and Abigail Wellington. He is also survived by a sister Ann Stephens of Canisteo sisters-in-law, Catherine (George) Ott of Wayland, Anita (Grover) Slocum, Kelley (Brian) Moore all of Arkport and a brother-in-law John (Linda) Faulkner of Arkport. Merle was predeceased by five brothers, Donald, Harley, Kenneth Herbert and Arthur Wyant and two sisters Dorothy Pyer and Carrie Burger. At Merle’s request there will be no calling hours or service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Merle’s name may be made to NRA, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
