Addison, NY | Donald R. Groves, 85, of Cty. Rte. 86, Addison, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira following failing health. Don was born in Woodhull, NY on May 27, 1929, the son of the late William and Mary Jane Tubbs Groves. A US Army veteran, Don served from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Lottie I. Ladd while in the service. They were wed on May 13, 1953 in Woodhull. Lottie preceded Don in death on December 19, 2007. Don retired from the Ingersoll Rand Co. Foundry in Painted Post. He was a charter member of the Addison Eagles Aerie 3904 and served as a trustee. He and Lottie were also long time members of the Twin Rivers CB Club in Addison. Don loved to tinker on equipment and was an excellent mechanic. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Besides his wife Lottie, Don was predeceased by his brothers, Ivan, Lewis and Clayton Groves and his sisters, Wilma Jean Dickerman, Eva VanCise and Mary Jane Benavidez. He is survived by his daughter, Onna Mae Causer of Addison, his son, Francis Quackenbush of Madisonville, Kentucky, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brothers, Joe Groves of Panama City, FL and Wallace (Ruth) Groves of Millport, NY, sisters, Rose Ellen Morse of Rock Stream, NY, Nelle (Floyd) Bliss 0f Addison, Sadie Groves of Kentucky and Anna Groves of Corning. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 1 to 3 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral and committal services will follow at 3 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
