Addison, NY | On Monday night, May 18, 2015 the Angels came and took Louis R. Young Sr. home. Louis was 89 and lived on County Route 21, Addison, NY. He passed at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in West Union, NY on January 19, 1926, Louis was the son of Randall L. and Myrtle V. (Rice) Young. He left school in the 8th grade to find work to help with household expenses. Louis had a varied work history. He primarily was a dairy farmer on his farm in Hedgesville. He also had been employed by Hyatt, a division of GM in New Jersey, worked for Dean & Lee Feed Mill in Woodhull, the Corning Building Company and 28 seasons at the Woodhull Raceway. On February 22, 1952, Louis and the former Dorothy J. Koch were married. Dorothy preceded him in death on July 23, 1994. Louis and Dorothy were former Grange members, belonging to both the Hedgesville Grange as well as the North Cameron Grange. Louis was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved to play Euchre. He was always looking for a game or tournament to sit in on. In later years, he attended Bible Union Church in Genesee, PA. Besides Dorothy, Louis was predeceased by his sons, Bruce Baker, Louis Young Jr. and Gordon Baker, his daughters, Karen Conrad and Dorothy Decker, his sisters, Grace Stanford, Agnes Young, Hazel Young and Gertrude Hill, his brothers, Leroy Young, Leonard Young and Randall Young Jr. and his daughter in law, Michelle Young. Surviving are his children and spouses, Kathryn and Dale Quick of Addison, Ronald and Sharon Baker of Woodhull, Edward Young of Bath, Gary Baker of Addison, James Young of Addison and Deborah and Marty Reisman of Genesee, PA, his daughters in law, Patricia Young of Osceola, PA and Judy Baker of New Jersey, 28 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are dear friends Frank Paddock and Paul Powers. Friends may call on Thursday, May 21 from 1-3 and 5-7 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there on Friday at 11 AM with Pastor Marty Reisman officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
